ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY LAB

The Engineering Chemistry Lab has a wide range of equipment. The lab is aptly prepared to impart education in Chemistry in a neatly designed, spacious and well-ventilated laboratory with a capacity to accommodate 20 students. It provides students with a practical approach towards the various techniques used in engineering application. Practical awareness is inculcated and students are trained both quantitatively and qualitatively during the lab sessions so that their understanding and problem solving abilities can be enhanced.

Major Equipment in Engineering Chemistry Lab

UV-Spectrophotometer, Digital Conductivity Meters, Flame Photometer, Redwood Viscometers, Pensky Marten’s Flash & Fire Point Apparatus, Electrical Balance, Distillation Unit, Digital pH Meters etc.
The Chemistry Lab practical has been introduced with a view to develop scientific attitude among the students. The topics (experiments) have been chosen to develop skill among the students so that they can measure, differentiate and analyze the best results. This will help them solve the engineering problems in their world of work.

  • List of Equipments in the laboratory.
  1. Determination of Ca & Mg hardness of water using E.D.T.A. solution.
  2. Determination of alkalinity of water sample.
  3. Determination of dissolved oxygen in the given water sample.
  4. Determination of viscosity of Lubricant by Red Wood viscometer (No.1&2)
  5. To determine flash point & fire point of oil by Pensky- Marten’s flash point apparatus.
  6. To find out saponification No. of an oil.
  7. To prepare phenol-formaldehyde and urea- formaldehyde resin.
  8. Determination of strength of HCl solution by titrating it against NaOH Solution.
  9. Estimation of total iron in an iron alloy.
  10. To find the melting and eutectic point for a two component system using cooling curve.

ENGINEERING PHYSICS LAB

The goal of this lab course is to provide students hand on experiment regarding topics such as Newton’s laws, diffraction grating, photo conducting cell, sonometer. To satisfy the Central Student Outcomes of General Education, students will require to show the ability to use the computer to organize, analyze, and present data in a coherent and logical scientific (mathematical) ways in your lab report. Students will draw conclusions about natural phenomenabased on those results/observations. It is hoped this will help students learn to use the scientific method to solve problems and evaluate ideas in a logical manner.It provides students with a practical approach towards the various techniques used in engineering application. Practical awareness is inculcated and students are trained both quantitatively and qualitatively during the lab sessions so that their understanding and problem solving abilities can be enhanced.

Major Equipment in Engineering Physisc 1 Lab

Newton’s rings, polarimeter, De’sauty bridge , diffraction grating, photo conducting cell, sonometer, e/m for electrons by Helical method, Gee’s apparatus, four probe, B-H curve.

The Physics Lab practical has been introduced with a view to develop scientific attitude among the students. The topics (experiments) have been chosen to develop skill among the students so that they can measure, differentiate and analyze the best results. This will help them solve the engineering problems in their world of work.

  • List of Equipments in the laboratory.

  1. To find the wavelength of sodium light by Newton’s rings experiment.
  2. To find the wavelength of various colors of white light with the help of a plane transmission diffraction grating.
  3. To find the resolving power of a telescope.
  4. To find the refractive index and cauchy’s constants of a prism by using spectrometer.
  5. To find the pitch of a screw using He-Ne laser 6.
  6. To find the specific rotation of sugar solution by using a polarimeter.
  7. To compare the capacitances of two capacitors by De’sauty bridge and hence to find the dielectric constant of a medium.
  8. To find the flashing and quenching potentials of Argon and also to find the capacitance of unknown capacitor.
  9. To study the photoconducting cell and hence to verify the inverse square law.
  10. To find the frequency of A.C. mains by using sonometer .

LANGUAGE LAB

  • The prime objective of the lab is to develop these major skills among the students.
  1. Techniques to improve listening.

Teaching listening involves training in some ‘enabling skills’ — perception of sounds, stress, intonation patterns, accents, attitudes and so on, as well as ‘practice’ in various styles of listening comprehension. The sounds of the English language can be written down using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) which is used in all Longman dictionaries. It can be well practiced on pronunciation exercises with the help of software or by using CDs in language lab. Earphones and headphones d
eliver undistorted sound directly to the ears; this provides ideal conditions for intensive listening.

  • 2. Techniques to improve speaking

Language lab develops phonetic and spoken English skills with RP (Received Pronunciation) among the students of engineering. It incorporates the technique of accent, speaking with clear syllable division and enables the students’ spoken skills with proper stress and intonation. Students’ became confident in making the conversation, dialogues and participating in JAM (Just A Minute) sessions. Essential skills like participating in the debates and group discussions will be developed. ELCS Lab enables the students to enhance their skills in information transfer and telephoning skills.

  • 3. Techniques to improve Reading and Writing

Various Grammar Exercises – Reading, Writing and Comprehension are practiced in the lab. The goal of these exercises is to build the knowledge of how the words fit together to make sense. Some of the exercises may be translations; others can be designed to teach the learner to think in English by asking them to change a phrase in a specific way. This feature requires to type responses within the exercises, providing a practical and effective form of writing instruction. They can be followed by activities in groups through exercises on word meanings, vocabulary, fill in the missing information, writing summary / gist. Note taking, thought provoking questions for group discussions, brainstorming sessions etc. Writing can be practiced through typing on gap fill exercises and model format for E-mail, letter, memo, reports and resume.
